DMX Punked Out!
Before we even get the details of the story, why is DMX wearing designer shades for a fighting promotion picture? Your supposed to look mean and hard not glamorous and trendy!
In December, DMX was supposed debut as a MMA fighter on an Alabama card scheduled for December 12th against Eric Martinez. The decision to fight Martinez was made in Sept. and DMX immediately began gloating about his fighting skills:
“We got a phone call, you know, asking if I wanted to participate in it. Yeah, why not? I figured I could do it. I’m just going to walk in as it is… It wouldn’t be fair if I trained. I can fight for real though, so it is what it is.”
During contract negotiations, DMX’s manager, Nakia Walker, sent over stipulations to be added to the contract. First, he was to be scheduled to win, all parties had to agree that the match was for fun and that he was not a professional boxer, and lastly, none of these stipulations could be leaked to the public.
Well as you can probably tell, Thunder Promotions did not agree to this and did not want to deal with him any longer. DMX tried to save the match saying that he would fight without the stipulations, but it was too late. Thunder Promotions booked Coolio in his place for their “Alabama Pride” fight night. Coolio is 46 and has no formal fight training, but Thunder Promotions say that Coolio is taking the fight seriously.
As for DMX, he cost Thunder Promotions hundreds of thousands of dollars and they are suing him for $1 Million for backing out. The lawsuit was filed on Nov. 20th in the Birmingham County Court.
